The cost of weight loss surgery in Brisbane varies depending on the procedure and whether you have private health insurance. For insured patients, costs typically range from $7,800 to $12,500 out of pocket depending on your level of cover. For uninsured patients, costs start from around $19,600. Our pricing includes the surgeon’s fee (Dr Ian Martin), anaesthetist fee, hospital accommodation (typically one night), and all theatre fees. Your dietitian consultations and the Fresh Start Program are also included. What is not included: your GP referral, any required specialist pre-operative assessments, and post-operative medications.

Please note: the initial pre-surgery dietitian consult is $145. All post-surgery dietitian consultations are included.

Yes. Different procedures carry different fees due to complexity and operating time. Gastric sleeve surgery and OAGB (one anastomosis gastric bypass) are priced differently to revision surgery, which is typically more complex. Yes, in some cases. The Australian Tax Office allows early release of superannuation on compassionate grounds, which includes weight loss surgery when it is deemed medically necessary to treat a life-threatening condition. No, we do not offer payment plans.

Some costs that are not included in the price: GP referral and any GP appointments, pre-operative blood tests or specialist assessments (e.g., sleep study, cardiologist), and post-operative medications and vitamins (ongoing). We will provide you with a full, transparent cost breakdown at your consultation.

Yes. An initial consultation with Dr Ian Martin is required before surgery. The bariatric assessment and initial consult with Dr Martin are bulk billed provided you have a GP referral. There is a fee ($145) for the initial dietitian consult required prior to surgery. Telehealth consultations are available for patients outside Brisbane.

Dr Ian Martin’s team takes every precaution to minimise complications. However, in the unlikely event that a complication requires additional treatment, or an extended hospital stay, costs may be incurred. Insured patients are largely protected by their health fund for in-hospital complications. Uninsured patients should discuss this risk and any available coverage with our administration team before surgery.
